Description/Job Summary

Sells and services crop insurance policies and provides specialized support to the regional office's insurance sales and processing.

  • Generates crop insurance portfolio growth by seeking new business opportunities with emphasis on walk-in customers and sales referrals
  • Identifies key prospects and cross sells with loan staff
  • Attends events and solicits referrals
  • Identifies key agricultural topics and provides education opportunities for farmers to attend
  • Assesses customer and prospect needs for crop insurance
  • Renews and originates small, less complex policies, referring larger, complex policies to the Vice President, Crop Insurance
  • Determines how to best meet customers'/prospects' needs and discusses coverage options
  • Reviews policy structure and maps to verify appropriateness of insurance coverage
  • Provides rate quotes and determines policy edits or corrections
  • Identifies where product add-ons can add value
Portfolio Management
  • Manages a book of smaller crop insurance policies, including the collection and completion of acreage and production reports
  • Proactively identifies potential current and future claim situations
    • Educates the customer about claim procedures and provides guidance
    • Submits claims as needed
    • Monitors the claim processing timeframe
    • Reviews claim outcomes with the customer as needed
  • Provides service to walk-in customers regardless of portfolio assignment
  • Proactively seeks portfolio segmentation from the Vice President, Crop Insurance
  • Responsible for customer retention
Crop Insurance Administration
  • Reviews crop insurance applications, acreage reports, production reports as well as other documents for completion and readiness
  • Ensures documents meet policy provision and standards
  • Coordinates and tracks the compilation of documents needed for insurance policies and claims utilizing the document management system
  • Enters information into customer relationship management software to document the insurance sales process
  • Works closely with centralized processing
Public Relations
  • Participates in customer appreciation events and activities to enhance relationships
  • Develops and maintains a professional presence in the ag community through active involvement in professional groups and community activities
  • Identifies key contacts and resources to build relationships
Continuous Education
  • Implements and attends continuous education activities to remain informed of ongoing crop insurance coverage changes
  • Stays apprised on loan products to answer customer inquiries and promote cross selling of loan and crop insurance products
  • Remains knowledgeable of legislative issues that impact crop insurance
  • Attends activities to build upon expertise in various aspects of agriculture, finance and economics
  • Gains knowledge pertinent to the geographic region or territory

Required Qualifications

Associate's degree in business or agriculture related field and 1 year of experience supporting crop insurance sales and processing;
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
